I Am Unable To Send Email. What Do I Do?

This article is for cPanel Accounts. Determine where your account is with this guide.

Go to your mail program, and change the outgoing server settings to match the settings below. Also, make sure your mail program is authenticating with the outgoing server using the same information as the incoming server.

This may vary slightly depending on the Email Client you are using such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.:

  1. Make sure that you have your SMTP server set up correctly. The server will be your domain name. You'll also want to confirm that you have it set up to authenticate with your mailbox username and password.
  2. The more likely problem is that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) blocks external SMTP servers from being used when you are on their network. Contact your ISP and ask them what SMTP server you should be using.  Alternatively, you can usually get around this block by configuring your outgoing server settings to use custom port 2525 (instead of default port 25).

Your ISP may be blocking port 25 which is becoming more and more common. This is a method imposed to prevent spammers from sending e-mails from their location and making it harder to send spam.

Manual Settings

You can manually configure your mail client using the settings below:

Secure SSL/TLS Settings
(Recommended)
Username:youremailaddress@yourdomain.com
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server:

your_server_name_can_be_found_in_cpanel_on_the_left_side

  • IMAP Port: 993
  • POP3 Port: 995
Outgoing Server:

your_server_name_can_be_found_in_cpanel_on_the_left_side

  • SMTP Port: 465
Authentication is required for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.

Non-SSL Settings
Username:youremailaddress@yourdomain.com
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server:

mail.yourdomain.com

  • IMAP Port: 143
  • POP3 Port: 110
Outgoing Server:

mail.yourdomain.com

  • SMTP Port: 2626
Authentication is required for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.

Notes:

  • IMAP email access coordinates between the server and your mail application. Messages that have been read/deleted/replied to will show up as such, both on the server and in the mail application.
  • POP3 does not coordinate with the server. Messages marked as read/deleted/replied to in the mail application will not show up as such on the server. This means that future mail downloads with POP3 will show all messages as unread.
  • Outgoing mail is sent using SMTP.
  • We recommend using POP3 over SSL/TLS or IMAP over SSL/TLS since they provide increased security for your interactions with the remote mail server.
