How To Move Website Files With FileZilla


This guide was created to help you migrate the website files from your Site Manager to your cPanel hosting account. We will proceed by using the FTP client: FileZilla. It is free and available for both Windows and Apple. Get FileZilla here.

Step 1: Getting started

  1. Watch the video above.
  2. Get the IP address for your site manager account.
  3. Get the IP address for your cPanel account.

Step 2: Connect to your Site Manager account

  1. You will be using the Quickconnect feature in FileZilla as soon as the program opens. Fill in the following information at the top of the screen:

    1. Host: IP address of your site manager account.

    2. Username: Site manager username.

    3. Password: Site manager password.

    4. Port: Leave this field blank.

  2. After filling in the information, click “Quickconnect”.

  3. After connecting, you will want to double-click the "www/" folder. This is your root access point for your website and serves as the top level for importing files.

Step 3: Download files to your computer

  1. Find the folder where you want to download the files on your local computer in the "Local Folders" section.
  2. Find the "www/" or "/var/www/html" folder in the "Remote Folders" section and double-click on it.
  3. Find the files you will be downloading in the "Remote Files" section and highlight them all.

    You can use ctrl+clicking to select multiple items

  4. Click and drag the highlighted files from the "Remote Files" section to the "Local Files" section.

  • Remote Folders: These are the folders that are on your hosting account (Your website files will be in the www/ or /var/www/html folders)
  • Local Folders: These are the folders on your personal computer
  • Local Files: The files on your local computer.
  • Remote Files: The files that have been uploaded to your hosting account will be here

Step 4: Connect to your cPanel account

  1. You will be using the Quickconnect feature in FileZilla as soon as the program opens. Fill in the following information at the top of the screen:

    1. Host: IP address of your cPanel account.

    2. Username: cPanel username.

    3. Password: cPanel password.

    4. Port: Leave this field blank.

  2. After filling in the information, click “Quickconnect”.

  3. After connecting, you will want to double-click the "public_html/". This is your root access point for your website and serves as the top level of importing any files.

Step 5: Upload Files to your cPanel Account

  1. In Section 1 of the image, navigate to the "public_html/" folder.
  2. In Section 3 of the image, navigate to the folder where you downloaded the files in Step 2.
  3. In Section 4 of the image, select all of the files that you want to upload to your cPanel account.
  4. Click and drag the files selected into Section 2 of the image.
