Joomla CMS now averages 1 million download per month
The latest updates from Joomla CMS indicate that this popular content management system has now reached the 30-million download mark and averages close to 1 million downloads per month.
Joomla, along with Drupal and WordPress, is considered one of the top three user-friendliest pieces of software to build websites on professional hosting platforms in the United States and abroad.
It is available as free installation on WestHost hosting infrastructure, easily launched by using the Softaculous installer via the industry-leading cPanel dashboard.
“[Joomla] began adhering to a six-month release cycle meaning more product enhancements being introduced more often. New features in the latest version included multi-database support, one-click version updating, predefined search options and language-specific font settings,” said Joomla in a recent press release.
Over 3,100 government agencies now rely on Joomla to power their highly secure and resource-hungry systems in the United States and internationally.
They are relying upon features such as:
- One-click version updates,
- Access control oversight
- Multilingual capabilities
Further, at least 1.6 million international websites now use Joomla as their primary CMS system.
It’s not just the core Joomla system that interests government, business owners and website developers: They are also starting to rely heavily on the abundance of Joomla extensions to reach their UI, design and database goals.
The extensions now number over 2000 and are helping define a wealth of websites, which now account for nearly 2.7% of the World Wide Web.
“As of the end of March 2011, Joomla was downloaded about 22 million times, meaning its adoption rate has grown about 40 percent over the last year. Joomla began keeping track of the number of CMS downloads in 2007. However, the Joomla CMS was first made available in 2005, which means the real number of downloads is presumably much higher,” said Joomla.
Joomla said that everything from personal websites and blogs to some of the largest enterprise, highest trafficked Websites and Intranets are now running on Joomla. These include entities operated by Citibank, eBay, General Electric, Harvard University, Ikea, McDonald’s and Sony.
“Due to its power and elegance, the most inexperienced user to the most seasoned Web developer can use it.”
