What Is A Shared SSL

This article is for cPanel Accounts. Determine where your account is with this guide.

With shared SSL you get the benefits of SSL without the costs that are usually associated with setting up an SSL on the server. With Shared SSL you use WestHost's SSL certificate. With shared SSL you usually get a secure URL like:
https://sl-603-1.slc.westdc.net/~username

The cPanel server provides users with a shared SSL and may prompt some visitors with a warning depending on their browsers.
Using a shared SSL for conducting online transactions is not usually a professional method. It is mostly useful if you want to use SSL when connecting with a mail client. You would just need to use the server name as the incoming and outgoing server. If you are unsure of your server name, contact our support department.
