How To Install WHM - cPanel

If you do not purchase the cPanel/WHM Addon for your server, you can still install it manually. This will require that you have a valid license purchased from cPanel itself.

Installing cPanel/WHM
=====================

To begin your installation, you will need to establish an SSH connection and run a few commands. To establish an SSH connection, you will first need an SSH client – we recommend the free Putty software that can be downloaded from http://www.putty.org/.

You will then enter your main IP address as the “Host”, the username “root”, and then your default root password. Once you are successfully logged in via SSH, please run the following commands:

  1. “cd /home” — Opens the directory /home.
  2. “wget -N http://httpupdate.cpanel.net/latest” — Fetches the latest installation file from the cPanel servers.
  3. “sh latest” — Opens and runs the installation files.
  4. “/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt” — Activates your cPanel license after installation.

There is no license key as a number that WestHost provides because the license is just based on your server’s IP address. When you purchased the cPanel license, cPanel tied it to your IP address.

Once you have installed cPanel/WHM, then you will need to visit http://yourVPSipAddress:2086/ into your browser’s address bar to log in to your Web Host Manager. You will use the username of “root” and the password specified during installation.

Please note that WestHost can NOT assist you with this install process.
