Telnet
Telnet is a standard Internet protocol used in accessing remote systems, like a web server. We use SSH (secure telnet) instead of regular telnet hosting because SSH offers increased security over regular telnet. SSH hosting offers all of the features telnet does in addition to being more secure. One commonly used SSH program is PuTTy, a freeware program that will allow you to use SSH. A more powerful program is SecureCRT, but this program is not freeware. If you use a Macintosh, NiftyTelnet 1.1 SSH r3 is a freeware SSH utility you can download.
