Data Center
WestHost understands the importance of client data. That's why WestHost servers are supported by a SAS 70 Type II certified world-class infrastructure engineered from the ground up to support just about any kind of contingency. We've taken the time to ensure that our data center addresses all forms of potential business interruption. From a localized power failure to a major earthquake, all it takes to bring down a company is a lack of preparation.

| Disaster Tolerance |
Our Data Center is SAS 70 Type II certified and constructed on top of a 3½-foot thick reinforced matte footing to which are bolted nine separate base isolations units. Each base isolator is made of alternating layers of rubber and Teflon and the data center itself rests directly on top of the base isolators. These "shock absorbers" are designed to absorb the shaking of the ground during an earthquake and transform the shaking into a gentle roll, thus keeping racks from tipping over and hard drives from jumping.
We also utilize a fire suppression system that is people safe, protects property and equipment, and is completely environmental-friendly. This is accomplished by using INERGEN® agent. INERGEN® agent is non-toxic and removes enough oxygen from the air to extinguish the fire yet people are still able to breathe comfortably. |

| Physical Security |
At our Data Center, we implement security measures that begin before a person arrives on the property or even enters the building and continues once they are inside. Perimeter fencing, green field space, card access, biometric entries, and mantraps all work to prevent unauthorized access.
Furthermore, 24-hour security guards and continuous camera surveillance inside and outside the buildings allow us to know exactly who is on the premises at all times. Our set-in-stone procedures for handling visitors and equipment ensure unauthorized personnel never touch your assets.

| Network Security |
Because access to the data center isn't only physical, we have provided an unparalleled level of security and protection to our network. Our facilities support host-based virus protection, firewalls, real-time security alerting using intrusion detection scanners (IDS), and 24 hour monitoring from our Network Operations Center (NOC). Any potentially malicious activity can be curbed well before it happens.

| Redundant Network |
| Redundant telecommunications paths into the local fiber optics infrastructure are buried around our Data Center. If a cable is cut or an earthquake disrupts fiber on one side of the building, a redundant path exists on the other side. Tier 1 connections to the Internet backbone are available through multiple gigabit Ethernet connections with scalability to OC-48 and beyond. We are peered with Verizon, XO, Global Crossing, Level 3, and ELI. In addition, a private microwave communications network provides options for backup transmission. All these things ensure premium bandwidth and the highest availability possible for each of our clients. |

| Uninterruptable Power |
Electrical power comes into the data center through the local power grid and is backed up by a battery supply capable of powering the building for approximately 15 minutes. This is far more time than the 90 seconds needed for the 750-kilovolt Caterpillar generators to come online. An underground diesel fuel tank is located on the premises with enough fuel to run the data center at full power for three to five days. Equipment requiring 208V/110V is supported by power distribution units strategically located in the data center. Regular testing of all power and backup units is performed at weekly intervals. Our Data Center also has rooftop grounding rods for resistance to lighting strikes. |
