We have developed our website, thematking.com , to serve as the core element of our company's marketing and sales efforts. We have structured it to serve as an on-line catalog of our many products, as a guide for specifiers and end user clients to determine the appropriate product for particular applications, as an instructional manual for the installation or care and maintenance of the different products and as a resource for those seeking solutions or remedies to certain compliance issues such as those dealing with OSHA, the ADA, the FDA and various military related requirements.
What prompted you to build a Web site originally?
The internet was all text and boring when we first saw it on a screen at a local
university. But, there was the idea that anyone could access it from any where in some almost mystical way that intrigued us to where we decided to get involved. We had no idea where it was going but there was a certain frontier feeling that was both attractive and unnerving. Everyone who spoke to us about it had a different understanding. Instant experts were popping up all over the place and fast-talking phonies were asking for big money to get unsuspecting business people into their clutches. But, we saw more chances to advance than potential for disaster, so we took the plunge.
What improvements would you like to make to your Web site in the future?
The internet is constantly evolving and we want to be able to adapt to it as it does. For us, it has always been about providing the answers to potential customers questions and to help make it easier for them to buy from us. We want to continue to move in that direction. Towards that end, we continue to expand the levels of our product presentations. By that we mean that where ever we feel it will help we add a branching page to provide more details such as a page for architectural specifications, or one for a step-by-step installation guide, or a care and cleaning list. We have a few videos and may add others where we feel that they will be helpful to demonstrate a point. We are not big believers in filling up spaces with \"eye candy\" just to make the pages pretty. We feel people want a feeling dependability before they commit to becoming a client and we believe that that feeling will come more readily from knowledge gained than from even the most impressive and entertaining displays.
How has WestHost helped your business or Web site succeed?
People have said this before, but it's true so why not repeat it: WestHost has been there in support at any hour of the day or night, on all sorts of holidays and when everything seemed lost, they were there to help explain the options and how to accomplish our objectives. We used this past summer to convert our site to PHP and our internal taskforce staff was able to interface with the WestHost Website Development people to meet our deadlines with calm dependability. And in our opinion that is really saying something since our site is in excess of 2,600 pages.
What WestHost services or features provide the most value to you?
The WestHost telephone support is what does it for The Mat King. If someone can't answer a certain question, they seek out someone who can. They don't rattle and they keep at it until they find the reason for whatever it is that prompted our call. The WestHost website development to us is a kind of extension of the telephone support but we wanted to single them out as well because even though their work is more of a targeted nature of short duration, it is an intense experience that could, if handled in a less that friendly way, be jarring. That is not the case with the WestHost team of experts. And nobody makes us feel like an incompetent for not understanding or knowing something very basic. So, where calling for technical advice at so many other companies can be a deflating experience, calling WestHost for Help can actually be an ego booster.
Why would you recommend WestHost to a friend or colleague?
Recommending WestHost is easy and difficult all at once. It is similar to recommending your favorite restaurant to people. You know you are doing them a good turn because they will thoroughly enjoy their dining experience but, if you do it often enough, you may find yourself unable to get a reservation at the very place where you used to like to just walk in and get seated in two seconds. But, we have recommended to friends and colleagues WestHost and do so without reservation; you should pardon the expression. That's just a little humor from The Mat King. But we seriously doubt that we would ever have to wait very long. But, even if we did have to, for the kind of support we get from WestHost it would be worth the wait.
